17 Jan Reviewing TEXWORLD USA 2013

The Major Trends at TEXWORLD USA 2013

From January 14-16, 2013, TEXWORLD USA 2013 took place at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. This was the 14th edition of the largest apparel fabrics show in North America, and it featured 236 manufacturers from 16 countries around the world. The event gave attendees the opportunity to discover the latest fashion trends for the upcoming season and new, emerging technologies in the fabric industry.

This year was exciting because it featured first-time participating manufacturers from countries such a Belarus, Turkey, and Taiwan, proof of just how large and influential this show has become. Manufacturers has a number of product groups on display and featured all types of fabrics, including cotton, denim, lace, knits, silk, wool, and numerous eco-friendly products like hemp, linen, recycled material, and more.

TEXWORLD USA always gives you a glimpse into the upcoming trends in the fashion world, and this event was no exception. This year’s exhibition featured 4 prominent trends:

  • Play—A lot of the fabrics and apparel were very playful and lighthearted, using colors such as pink, red, and sky blues to appeal to juniors and young women.
  • Escape Route—We also noticed a lot of travel/outdoor themed fabrics that had a rugged, authentic feel to them. These fabrics were luggage brown, sienna, gold, and jade green in color.
  • Nature’s Splendor—The beauty of nature was also present in a lot of the fabrics displayed, with patterns and surface treatments that emphasized the beauty of nature.
  • Graphic Black & White—It might sound traditional and basic, but this year’s exhibition featured a lot of fabrics adding a new spin to the black & white concept, using matte/shine contrasts, super light sheers, tweeds, flecks, and metallic treatments.

Many Asian Exhibitors

The majority of exhibitors at this year’s event came from Asian countries, including China, Thailand, India, Pakistan, and Korea. One South Korean group comprised of 50 different manufacturers, Gyeonggi Textile Marketing Center (GTC), provided more than 5,000 samples and aggressively marketed its products to get the attention of buyers from the global marketplace.

Soo-Ik Son, a chief director for the Department of Specialized Industry at Gyeonggi Provincial Government saw the opportunity this event provided and said, “We are expecting to highly promote our specialized knit products from Gyeonggi Province, as the event is hosted during our peak sales season. Although this event is mainly directed by New York-based GTC, our Los Angeles-based GTC will also participate to meet with buyers as well so hopefully this opportunity will boost up our exports in the upcoming seasons.”

The event was very beneficial for the group as GTC recorded $5.46 million worth of sales to 105 buyers. HyoChang, another Korean manufacturer, recorded $2.8 million in sales with 26 buyers.
