The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center was the host to NY NOW Winter 2014. Held from the 1st to the 6th of February, the event was a success despite various unforeseen factors which included this year’s Super Bowl. Among the 2,500 exhibitors many reported strong order writing distinctly from new account and large retailers.

Some 35,000 attended the event representing all 50 states and over 70 countries; notably Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, and United Kingdom. With the wide range of attendees many exhibitors were not only able to expand within the United States but all over the world.

The event featured many new and exciting lines for the Home and Lifestyle market and various companies, both new and veteran, had been recognized for their impact. Some being: Pivot, Neo, Longstreet Collection, Finell and Tina Frey Designs

On the floor Accent on Design there was a strong presence of the Japanese market making their way to the hearts of the attendees. Some of the companies showcasing their products were SanYoshi, Marna, Skater, Aisen, Takenaka and Lustroware. The Japan Pavilion was a thriving section bringing light to their take on household and beauty and healthcare items.

During the event Lifetime Brands, Inc. had won the Best of Home for their Savora Colander, a stainless steel colander. While the winner of Best of Lifestyle was Vici Enterprises for their Spherovelo, the first and only ride-on targeted specific toward children ages 6months-2years. The Spherovel, along with other benefits, helps develop the motor skills during the early parts of a child’s life.

Throughout the 6 day event seminars that highlighted the impact of social media and its uses along with the impact of visual merchandising were some of the many that added to the success of the event. Some specifically being; the uses of building up a business with Facebook and Linkedin and how all of this can be translated into a viable business plan.

Following social media and online campaigns, the introduction of health and wellness endeavors along with the future of color and design with consumer trends added impact to the many seminars held throughout the event.

Notable hosts and sponsors were, but not limited to, ART (The Creative Home Furnishings Network), IR Focus, Giftware News and Baby & Kids. Speakers include; Phil Hobson, founder and president of Phoenix; Michelle Hatch, Macy’s.com group vice president; Anna Perez, director of e-commerce of Alexander Interactive; Susan Szenasy, editor of METROPOLIS.

This all leaves one to wonder what will be in stored for the NY NOW Summer 2014 event that is scheduled for the 16th through the 20th of August. Once again the event will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. With an estimated attendance at 35,000 attendees the summer edition should prove to be as successful.
