International Contemporary Furniture Fair 2013 Goes Big for 25th Anniversary

From May 18th to May 21st, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair 2013 (ICFF 2013) took over the Jacob J. Javits Convention Center in New York. As the 25th anniversary of the event, ICFF 2013 was big and exciting. The event featured more than 570 exhibitors, including 230 first-time exhibitors from 30 countries all across the world. The event also had a wide range of exhibitors from 11 related industries from all across the globe. International manufacturers and designers from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Japan, Slovenia, and Spain exhibited a number of products in contemporary furniture, seating, carpet and flooring, lighting, outdoor furniture, wall coverings, and kitchen and bath for residential.

By all measures, ICFF 2013 was a success. More than 29,000 people were in attendance as the event attracted buyers, retailers, wholesalers, and industry critics from all over. This marked a 12% increase in attendance.

Highlights from ICFF 2013

At ICFF 2013, there were lots of interesting trends of contemporary furniture and home décor on display. Handmade furniture with a mixture of contemporary and retro design, eco-friendly, and visual-sound products were eye-catching to attendees.

Some of the highlights and trends from ICFF 2013 include:

  • Modern + retro: The products showcased this year featured design that has both contemporary and retro style, which is very rare with the current designs in furniture and home decors. Designers either mixed contemporary and retrospective design in a product or added modern and chic style on the original, simple manufactured goods.
  • Eco-friendly: Environment-friendly products are the “must” items for every trade show and ICFF 2013 was no exception. Products made with eco-friendly materials and technology were heavily featured and well received by all in attendance.
  • Contemporary design with sound: What happens when a sophisticatedly designed product adds sound? At ICFF 2013, it showed that this kind of product creates a powerful synergy. For example, showerheads with wireless speakers and contemporary stereo consoles with wood-embedded amplifiers were huge hits for their innovative designs.

Looking Ahead to Next Year

ICFF 2014 is already scheduled to take place starting May 17, 2014. The event will open its doors to the public on May 21, 2014.
